I've been working in fashion design for years, and the one skill that changed everything for me was learning tambour embroidery.

Here's what most people don't realize about tambour:

It's faster than you think. A skilled tambour embroiderer can lay down beading 10x faster than someone doing it by hand with a needle. The hook technique lets you work in continuous lines rather than individual stitches.

The craft is having a renaissance right now and independent designers are using it to create pieces that stand out in a sea of digital prints and fast fashion, yet fashion schools have not yet added it back to their curricula.
