Poll: what stack are you building on

quick poll. what's your SaaS stack?

the one I teach, and why each piece is there:

  • Next.js for the app, because one codebase handles pages and API routes

  • Supabase for the database and auth, because Postgres plus Row Level Security covers most of what a first version needs

  • the Claude API for the AI feature

  • Vercel for hosting, because it deploys from git

  • Stripe for billing

it's a default. people ship good products on Python backends, Rails, Laravel and no-code tools. the stack matters less than getting one paying customer.

vote, then tell me in the replies what you'd change about the stack above. most interested in people who tried it and switched away.

This week: run your first export

small challenge for this week. export everything your business runs on.

platforms change fees, close features and hold payouts during account reviews. you can't stop that. you can make sure none of it costs you your customers.

the export list:

your email list (from your email tool)

customers and orders (from your checkout)

community members, if you have them. Skool, for example, has an Export button on its Members tab

master copies of your product files, stored outside the platform

one gap to know about: you can't export the members of a Discord server or a Facebook group. if that's where your people are, invite them onto your email list too.

store it encrypted, keep only what you need (name, email, product, date) and delete old copies. it's personal data, so treat it that way.

then set a reminder for the 1st of every month and do it again.

reply "done" when you've run yours, or tell me which platform made it hard. you can post it in the free Discord too:

Challenge: the five-shot consistency test

mini challenge for this week. it takes about an hour and it tells you whether your character is actually consistent.

generate your character in these 5 shots:

  1. neutral front portrait

  2. side profile

  3. full body, standing

  4. totally different lighting (night, neon, harsh sun)

  5. an outfit she has never worn before

rules:

  • same model, same settings, same subject description

  • don't regenerate until it looks right. use the first or second take

  • no editing

then post all 5 in one comment and ask: would a stranger say this is the same person?

shot 2 and shot 5 are where most characters fall apart. profile because datasets rarely have enough side angles, new outfits because the face got trained together with the clothes.

I'll reply to every set with what I'd fix first.

Film by type, not by script

batch days fall apart when you film in script order. talking head, then a transition, then a whiteboard, then back again. you reset your energy every time.

the fix from lesson 3.3 of instagram ignited: group by type.

  • all talking heads first, while your energy is highest

  • then transitions. short clips, quick outfit changes, same backdrop

  • then graphics and whiteboard videos, which take less energy

  • last hour: retakes and a couple of spares

label files as you go so editing is fast: pillarangletake1.

one thing i'd add: leave a few open slots each week for timely posts. mosseri has said recency matters, so news and trend reactions shouldn't sit in a folder for a month.

the full lesson has the day-before checklist, the hour-by-hour plan for an 8-hour batch day and the folder system. if you want all four courses plus weekly live coaching, all access covers it, and this month's code is on

how many videos do you film in one sitting right now?

Where are you selling from?

quick poll. where do you sell (or plan to sell) your digital product?

what each one costs on a $29 sale, default US rates, no ads:

Etsy: $3.21, and buyers are already browsing

Gumroad: $3.40, quick to set up, handles tax as merchant of record

Lemon Squeezy: $1.95, also merchant of record

Stripe direct: $1.14, cheapest, but tax and VAT are on you

Payhip: 5% on the free plan plus Stripe or PayPal processing, collects EU and UK VAT

none of these is the right answer for everyone. if you've got no audience, a marketplace's browsing buyers can be worth the higher fee. if you've got an email list, paying marketplace rates on buyers you brought yourself adds up.

vote below, and reply with why you picked it. especially curious if you switched platforms and what made you move.

if you're weighing a community platform instead, this compares the main ones:

Price a brand deal from views

the first time a brand asks "what's your rate?", most people either quote low in a panic or google a follower rate card. those tables are guesses.

lesson 5.4 of instagram ignited prices from what the brand actually gets. a hypothetical, just to show the arithmetic:

  • your reels average 8,000 views over the last 30 days

  • a placeholder price of $25 per 1,000 views (not a market rate)

  • 8 x $25 = $200 for one reel

  • then add separate fees for usage rights (them running it as an ad) and exclusivity (no competitors for a set time)

two things from the lesson i'd do before your first offer:

  1. ask for their budget first. "what's your budget for this?"

  2. know that "allow brand partner to boost" turns on automatically for 28 days after your last branded post, so agree ad usage and fees in writing

the full lesson adds the media kit, the pitch email, how to counter a low offer or shrink the scope, the contract checklist and the disclosure rules. Instagram Ignited comes with All Access:

what's harder for you, setting the number or saying it out loud?

What's stopping your growth right now?

quick poll so i know what to write about next.

where are you actually stuck on instagram right now?

if you pick views, tell me your typical skip rate if you know it. if you pick follows, tell me roughly how many views a reel gets and how many follows come from it. if it's consistency, what breaks it: ideas, filming time or editing?

i'll write the next few posts around the top answer, with the exact steps i'd take.

worth knowing before you vote: views and follows are different problems. low views usually comes down to the opening or the topic. lots of views and no follows is usually the profile, or a reel that doesn't make it clear what else you post.

Poll: where will your character earn first

poll for anyone building an AI character. where do you expect the first money to come from?

I'm asking because it changes what you should build first:

  • fan platform: you need a library before launch, and disclosure set up from day one

  • brand deals: you need a clear niche and a media kit more than a big following

  • digital products: presets, prompt packs or guides, which you can sell from the start

  • affiliate links: needs trust and a steady posting rhythm

most people plan for all four and finish none, so pick one to set up properly first.

vote, and if you comment, say what's stopping you from starting it this week.

30 green trades don't prove an edge

myth: if your last 30 trades are green, the strategy works.

what's true: small samples are mostly noise. take a strategy with a true 55% win rate (hypothetical). 95% of the time, the win rate you'd actually see lands in these ranges:

  • 10 trades: 20% to 80%

  • 50 trades: 42% to 68%

  • 100 trades: 45% to 65%

  • 500 trades: 51% to 59%

so a 65% month on a 55% strategy is normal. so is a 45% one. neither tells you much.

streaks work the same way. at 55%, a run of 5 losses in a row starts about once every 99 trades on average. at 5 trades a day that's roughly one a month, with a real edge.

what I'd do instead:

  1. judge the strategy on several hundred trades under the same rules

  2. judge yourself each month on rule-following, not win rate

  3. size so the worst normal streak can't end the account

this is from Lesson 5-2 of the free Futures course. hypothetical maths, not financial advice.

how many trades are in your current sample?

Drop your offer, I'll rewrite it

weekly thread. paste your offer in one sentence below and I'll rewrite it.

most offer sentences I see are missing one of three things: who it's for, the specific outcome, or what's actually inside. "a complete guide to growing on Instagram" has none of them.

the formulas I start from:

the [product] for [specific person] who want [outcome]

[number] [deliverables] to [outcome] in [timeframe]

stop [pain]. start [outcome].

how [audience] [get outcome] without [the thing they dread]

and the one I use most for headlines: [outcome] for [specific person], even if [common objection].

one rule: any number or timeframe in your sentence is a claim. only use one you can back up.

format your reply like this:

what it is (template, ebook, course)

who it's for

your one sentence

I'll go through as many as I can. if you'd rather get feedback from more people, the free Discord has a channel for it:
