Strategy Breakdown: the 3 hook frameworks that generated our first viral videos
Most people lose the viewer in the first 1.5 seconds. That is not a content problem. That is a hook problem.
These are the 3 hook frameworks that generated our first viral videos. Steal them. Use them today. Do not overthink the rest of the video until the hook is locked.
Framework 1: The Pattern Interrupt Open
The viewer is scrolling. Your job is to break the pattern of whatever they just saw.
Structure:
Visual or verbal mismatch in the first 0.5 seconds
Immediate context so they do not bounce
A promise of the payoff
Exact example (TikTok, 15-30s):
Visual: you on camera, holding a phone, looking slightly off like you just caught something
Line 1 (0-1s): "Stop posting 3 times a day."
Line 2 (1-3s): "The account that hit 1.2M views last month posted 4 times a week. Here's the exact cadence."
Why it works: The first line contradicts the advice they already believe. That contradiction is the interrupt. The number (1.2M, 4 times a week) is the proof they stay for.
How to write yours in 5 minutes:
Write the most common piece of advice in your niche
Flip it
Attach one specific result plus one specific method
Film the first 3 seconds as a close-up. No intro. No "hey guys."
Framework 2: The Open Loop Result
Show the outcome first. Hide the method. Force them to stay to close the loop.
Structure:
Result on screen immediately (number, screenshot, before/after)
One-line "how" teaser, not the how
Deliver the method in 3 steps max
Exact example:
On-screen text at 0s: "$0 ad spend. 847,000 views. 11 days."
Spoken (0-2s): "I didn't boost this. I changed 1 line in the caption."
Then: the 1 line, why it worked, and the 2 follow-up posts that compounded it
Why it works: The brain cannot leave an unfinished equation. Result without method equals an open loop. If you dump the method in second 1, they screenshot and leave.
How to write yours:
Pick a result you actually have (even a small one: 12k views, 40 saves, 3 DMs)
Put the number on screen before you speak
Name the single change, not the whole system
Walk the change in 3 steps. Stop talking when the 3rd step is done.
Framework 3: The "You're Doing This Wrong" Callout
Call out a specific mistake the viewer is making right now. Then replace it.
Structure:
Name the mistake in their language
Show the cost of the mistake
Give the replacement in one sentence, then prove it
Exact example:
Line 1: "If your TikToks start with 'Hey, so today I wanted to talk about...' you're already dead."
Line 2: "That intro costs you 60-80% of the people who tapped."
Line 3: "Cut the greeting. Start on the sentence that would make someone stop mid-scroll. Watch."
Then: cut to 3 rewritten openings, same topic, side by side
Why it works: It is personal. The viewer either recognizes themselves or wants to confirm they are not the problem. Either way they stay.
How to write yours:
List 5 things your free members are doing that kill reach (generic covers, 8-second outros, posting at random hours, no CTA, talking to camera with no on-screen text)
Pick one
Write the callout as if you are texting a friend, not teaching a class
Give the replacement as a fill-in-the-blank they can use tonight
Fill-in-the-blank you can steal:
"If your [content type] starts with [common opener], you're already dead. That [mistake] costs you [specific cost]. Do this instead: [one sentence replacement]."
How to use all 3 this week
Do not pick a favorite. Run all three.
Day 1-2: Pattern Interrupt. 2 videos. Same topic, two different contradictions.
Day 3-4: Open Loop Result. 2 videos. One with a view count, one with a DM/sale/save count.
Day 5-6: Callout. 2 videos. Two different mistakes.
Track only 3 numbers per video: 3-second hold rate, average watch time, profile visits. If 3-second hold is under 40%, the hook failed. Do not "improve the rest of the video." Rewrite the first 3 seconds and reshoot.
Your assignment (do this before you scroll)
Write 3 hooks tonight using the fill-in-the-blanks above.
Post 1 tomorrow. Do not wait for perfect lighting.
Reply under this post with the hook you used and the 3-second hold rate after 24 hours.
If you want the full posting system that sits behind these hooks (cadence, caption structure, and the offer sequence that turns views into buyers), that is what the rest of the Playbook is built for. Start with the hook. The rest compounds.
