3 Reports Every Canadian Small Business Should Run Monthly
If you're running an SMB in Canada and not pulling these three reports every month, you're flying blind.
1. Cash Flow Forecast (30/60/90 days)
Most small businesses don't fail because they're unprofitable — they fail because they run out of cash. A rolling cash flow forecast tells you exactly when tight months are coming so you can plan ahead.
2. Expense Ratio Breakdown
What percentage of revenue goes to COGS vs. overhead vs. marketing? If you can't answer that in 10 seconds, you're leaving money on the table. This one report alone has saved my clients thousands in wasted spend.
3. Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) Report
Especially if you're spending on ads or outreach. Most SMBs know their revenue but have no idea what it actually costs to land a customer. Once you know your CAC, you can optimize your marketing with precision.
I've been building reporting toolkits and running audits for Canadian SMBs for a while now. These are the three I always start with.
If you want ready-made templates for all three (plus a full audit framework), check out the Business Template Toolkit here on JL Reports.
