The first 10 investors you email will almost never be the ones who write the check

First-time founders treat fundraising like a launch: polish the deck, blast 80 emails, wait.

That's why it dies.

The round gets decided in the 3–4 weeks before you "go out." Warm intros from operators who've already shipped. One founder who just closed. A customer who will take a reference call. That's the list. The cold emails are theater.

A simple filter I use with pre-seed founders:

  • If you can't name 8 people who would intro you this week, you're not raising. You're announcing.

  • If your deck leads with TAM instead of the last 30 days of customer behavior, rewrite it.

  • If you can't say who said no last time and why, you haven't started.

Launch Signal is the weekly version of that filter: what actually closed, which GTM plays converted, and the operator notes you won't get from a thread.

If you're raising pre-seed or seed right now, start there. Don't wait until the deck is "done."
