The 3 mistakes killing 90% of lawns (and what to do instead)

Most homeowners make the same 3 mistakes every spring and then wonder why their lawn looks terrible by July.

Mistake #1: Mowing too short. You're scalping your lawn. Grass needs blade length to photosynthesize and develop deep roots. Set your mower to 3-3.5 inches minimum. Your lawn will thank you in 2 weeks.

Mistake #2: Watering every day (shallow). Daily light watering trains roots to stay at the surface. Instead, water 2-3x per week, deep — about 1 inch total. This forces roots to grow down, making your lawn drought-resistant.

Mistake #3: Fertilizing blindly. Not all fertilizers are the same, and timing matters more than product. A soil test costs $15 and tells you exactly what your lawn is missing. Stop throwing money at the problem.

I built LawnIQ because I got tired of watching my neighbors (and myself) waste hundreds of dollars on products that don't work for their specific lawn. Now the tool does the thinking for you — analyzes your property, tells you exactly what to do and when, and connects you with local retailers so you're not overpaying online.

If your lawn has been frustrating you, you're probably just missing information, not effort.
