3 things I wish I knew before trying to grow as an independent artist

Most independent artists make the same mistakes early on. I did too. Here's what actually moved the needle:

1. Your music is only 30% of the equation.

The other 70% is distribution strategy, audience building, and consistency. You can have the best track in the world — if nobody hears it, it doesn't matter. Treat your release like a campaign, not a prayer.

2. Stop chasing playlists. Build a real audience.

Playlists give you streams, not fans. Focus on platforms where people follow YOU — not a playlist curator. One engaged fan is worth 1,000 passive listeners.

3. Collaboration > competition.

The fastest way to grow is finding 5-10 artists at your level and genuinely supporting each other. Cross-promote. Feature each other. Share audiences. The industry rewards networks, not lone wolves.

I break down strategies like these every week inside Artist Growth Hub. If you're serious about turning your art into a career, come through.
