The 3-Box Method: How I Decluttered Every Room in 30 Days
Most decluttering advice tells you to "spark joy" or throw everything away. Neither works for real people with real lives.
Here's the framework I actually use — it's dead simple and it works every time.
The 3-Box Method:
Walk into any room with three boxes (or bags):
📦 Keep — Things you use at least once a month
🎁 Relocate — Things that belong in a different room or should be stored
🗑️ Remove — Donate, sell, or trash
Set a timer for 25 minutes. Work one surface at a time — countertop, shelf, drawer. Everything gets sorted into one of the three boxes. No exceptions, no "maybe" pile.
Why this works:
The biggest enemy of minimalism isn't stuff — it's decisions. The 3-Box Method gives you exactly 3 choices instead of infinite ones. Timer pressure stops overthinking.
Most people can do their kitchen in 2 sessions and their bedroom in 1. Within a week, you'll feel the difference. Within a month, your whole home shifts.
I teach the full room-by-room system inside The Minimal Home — including the tricky spaces like home offices, garages, and kids' rooms.
But start with the 3-Box Method today. Pick one room. 25 minutes. Go.
