The $500K mistake most parents make with life insurance

If you have kids and no life insurance, your family is one bad day away from financial disaster. Harsh? Yes. True? Also yes.

Here's the math most people never do:

If you make $75K/year and your kids are under 10, your family needs you for at least 15-20 more years of income. That's $1.1M–$1.5M in future earnings your family would lose.

A $1M term life policy for a healthy 35-year-old? About $40–60/month. That's less than Netflix + Spotify + gym combined.

The biggest mistakes I see:

  1. "I'll get it later" — Rates go up every year you wait. A 35-year-old pays ~40% less than a 45-year-old for the same coverage.

  1. Only relying on employer coverage — Most employer plans cover 1-2x salary. That replaces maybe 1-2 years of income. Then what?

  1. Buying the wrong type — Whole life costs 5-10x more than term. For most young families, term is the move.

  1. Underinsuring — $100K sounds like a lot until you factor in mortgage, childcare, college, and daily expenses.

I'm a licensed insurance professional and I built LifeShield Academy to help families figure this out — for free. No pressure, no sales pitch. Just straight answers.
