The real reason hotel sheets feel 10x better than yours
It's not magic. It's not the hotel's secret formula. It's three things most people never think about:
1. Thread count is a lie (mostly)
High thread counts sound impressive but they're often achieved by using thinner, weaker threads twisted together. True hotel linen quality comes from long-staple cotton — Egyptian or Supima — where individual fibers are longer, smoother, and stronger. A 400TC long-staple set beats a 1200TC standard set every time.
2. Percale vs sateen — and picking the wrong one
Percale is crisp, cool, and breathable. Sateen is silky and soft but traps heat. Hotels that feel "cool and clean" are almost always percale. Hotels that feel "luxurious and indulgent" are sateen. Neither is wrong — you just need to know which experience you're after.
3. They wash differently than you do
Hotels launder linens at higher temperatures with commercial-grade products that reset the fibers. At home, washing on cold with cheap detergent flattens cotton over time. Warm water + high-quality detergent + low-heat tumble dry = sheets that stay crisp longer.
That's the whole playbook. The materials exist for consumers — most people just never get pointed to the right ones.
We built Linen & Lux specifically for that. A weekly curation of hotel-grade bedding that's actually available to buy, with the context to know why it's worth it.
