The 3 mistakes every beginner makes in the gym (and what to do instead)

I started lifting recently and made every mistake in the book. Here's what I wish someone told me on day one:

1. Program hopping

You don't need the "perfect" program. You need ANY program done consistently for 8+ weeks. Pick a basic push/pull/legs or upper/lower split and just run it. The gains come from consistency, not from finding the magic routine.

2. Eating like you're still in high school

You can't out-train a garbage diet. You don't need to meal prep 7 days of chicken and rice, but you do need to hit your protein — roughly 0.8-1g per pound of bodyweight. Start tracking for a week just to see where you're at. Most guys are eating half of what they need.

3. Skipping the boring stuff

Sleep, water, warming up. Nobody posts about drinking a gallon of water, but it matters more than whatever supplement you're Googling. Get 7+ hours of sleep. Drink water. Stretch before you lift.

That's it. Nothing revolutionary — but actually doing these three things puts you ahead of 90% of people who "go to the gym."

I'm documenting my entire fitness journey inside Lockdown Fitness — workouts, meals, progress, and real talk. If you're just starting out and want a crew to do it with, come through.
