The 5AM lie and what actually builds discipline

Everyone talks about waking up at 5AM like it's the cheat code to success. It's not.

I've watched hundreds of guys try to "fix their mindset" by copying someone else's morning routine. They last 3 days, feel like failures, and quit harder than before.

Here's what actually works:

1. Identity-first change. Don't set goals — decide who you are. "I'm the guy who doesn't skip" hits different than "I want to go to the gym 4x a week."

2. Friction removal beats willpower every time. Willpower is a muscle that fatigues. Instead of relying on it, make the right choice the easiest choice. Sleep in your gym clothes if you have to.

3. One keystone habit. Pick ONE thing. Not five. Not a whole "routine." One non-negotiable daily action that makes everything else easier. For most guys it's either training or reading. Start there.

4. Environment > motivation. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. If they're not locked in, neither are you.

The guys who actually transform aren't the ones with the best routines. They're the ones who stopped waiting to feel ready and started showing up anyway.

That's what we do in Locked In. No fake motivation. Just frameworks that work and people who hold you accountable.
