The 5 biggest mistakes families make planning a Disney World trip

I've helped dozens of families plan their Walt Disney World vacations, and the same mistakes come up every single time. Here's what to avoid:

1. Not booking dining 60 days out. Popular restaurants like Be Our Guest and Cinderella's Royal Table fill up instantly. Set a reminder and book the moment your window opens.

2. Trying to do all 4 parks in 2 days. You'll burn out by noon. One park per day is the sweet spot — especially with kids. Quality over quantity.

3. Ignoring rope drop. The first hour of the park being open is worth more than the next three combined. Get there early, hit the big rides, then take a midday break.

4. Skipping a rest day. Build in a pool day or Disney Springs afternoon mid-trip. Your feet (and your kids) will thank you.

5. Winging it on budget. Between park tickets, food, souvenirs, and add-ons like Lightning Lane, costs add up fast. Having a plan saves you hundreds.

I built a fillable trip planner PDF that handles all of this — dining schedules, ride priorities, budgets, packing lists, the whole thing. Check it out if you want a stress-free trip.
