How to Spot a Legit Loan Offer (And Avoid Getting Scammed)

If you're a farmer, a vendor, or just someone trying to get a personal loan sorted, here's a quick checklist before you apply anywhere — on this platform or off it.

🚩 Red flags of a loan scam:

  1. Upfront "processing fee" before any paperwork. Legitimate lenders (banks, NBFCs, government schemes like Kisan Credit Card) deduct fees from the loan amount or charge them at disbursal — never before.

  2. No physical branch or verifiable GST/registration number. If you can't find them on the RBI's list of registered NBFCs, walk away.

  3. Guaranteed approval, no documents needed. Every real lender checks something — CIBIL score, land records, income proof. "No questions asked" = red flag.

  4. Pressure to decide in minutes. Real loans take at least a few hours to a few days to process, even for small amounts.

  5. Asking for your UPI PIN or OTP "to verify." No lender ever needs your PIN. Ever.

✅ What a legitimate lender WILL do:

  • Give you a written loan agreement with interest rate (APR, not just "per month" flat rate — always ask for the annual rate).

  • Have a registered office address and customer support number that actually picks up.

  • Report to CIBIL/credit bureaus (this is a good sign, not a bad one — it means they're regulated).

  • For crop/cash credit loans: check if it's routed through a scheduled bank or via the Kisan Credit Card scheme — these have capped interest rates (as low as 4% with subvention).

  • For women vendor/business loans: look for schemes like Mudra Loans (Shishu/Kishor/Tarun categories) or state-specific women entrepreneur schemes — no collateral needed under Mudra.

How this community helps:

Every link posted in the Verified Loan Links feed is checked against these criteria before it goes up. If you're ever unsure about a specific lender, ask in the chat — post the name and we'll help you check it before you hand over any documents or money.

Stay safe, and let's get you funded the right way.
