If you run a massage shop in Thailand, you already know the paid internet is closed to you. Google Ads rejects the category. Meta rejects it. LINE Ads rejects it. TikTok rejects it. Mainstream Thai media won't take the booking either — The Pattaya News turns adult venues away outright. Every normal customer-acquisition channel a restaurant or a hotel uses simply does not exist for you.

So what's left is three things, and only three:

1. Taxi and tout commission. Still the default. Somewhere between ฿100 and ฿500 a head, cash, no receipt, no way to know which drivers actually deliver. It works, which is why everyone does it, but you're paying per body forever and you own nothing at the end of it. Half the shops in Bangkok advertise "no taxi commission" as a selling point, which tells you how universal it is.

2. Google Maps / Business Profile. Worth doing, and free. It's also fragile in this category — suspensions, category mislabels, competitors reporting each other. Don't build your whole month on it.

3. Search. People type what they want into Google and click the pages that come up. This is the part most shops get wrong, so here is what the data actually says.

Three in four of those searchers are in Thailand. Not tourists. Thai customers, searching in Thai. อาบอบนวด and its variants carry more volume than the entire English side of this niche. If your online presence is English-only because you assume your customer is a farang on holiday, you're not seeing about 70% of the demand.

The searches are decision-stage, not browsing. Near-me, tonight, price, and shop-name-plus-review. Someone typing "นวดอาบอบนวด ใกล้ฉัน" at 9pm is not doing research. They're choosing between you and the shop two sois over, and they're doing it on their phone, and they'll tap whichever LINE or phone number is in front of them.

Your own website will not rank. This is the hard one to hear. A single shop with five pages does not out-rank a guide with two hundred pages, thousands of internal links and two years of accumulated authority. I've watched owners spend real money with web agencies to learn this. If you want to be on page one, the realistic route is to be on the pages that are already on page one, not to build a competitor to them.

So if I were running a shop tomorrow, in order:

  • Own your own name first. Search your shop's name right now. If the top results are other people's pages describing you, with a wrong price or a closed-down address, that is your most valuable search query and you don't control it. Fix that before you spend a baht on anything else.

  • Get your Thai-language presence right, not just English.

  • Be present where the searches already land, and treat it like the taxi commission you're already paying — except this one you can actually measure.

Full disclosure so nobody thinks I'm being clever: I run one of the guides that ranks for these terms. Around 30,000 readers a month, roughly 20,000 of them arriving straight from Google, mostly Thai. I'm not naming it in the thread, because the moment I do this stops being a useful post and becomes an ad, and the mods would be right to bin it.

Happy to answer anything here in public. If you want to see the actual traffic numbers for your city and category, message me and I'll send them over.
