The 3 MCAT mistakes that cost pre-meds 10+ points

I've tutored dozens of MCAT students, and the same three mistakes keep showing up — even among the smartest pre-meds.

Mistake #1: Treating CARS like a speed-reading test.

CARS isn't about reading fast. It's about reading precisely. The AAMC writes answer choices designed to trap people who skim. Slow down, identify the author's main claim in each paragraph, and the questions become straightforward.

Mistake #2: Memorizing content without practicing application.

You can know every amino acid and every physics formula, but the MCAT rarely asks you to just recall a fact. It asks you to apply it to a novel scenario. If your study plan is 80% content review and 20% practice, flip that ratio.

Mistake #3: Ignoring Psych/Soc until the last month.

Students treat P/S like an afterthought because "it's just vocab." Wrong. P/S is the easiest section to improve your score on — but only if you start early enough to actually internalize the frameworks, not just memorize definitions.

Fix these three things and you're already ahead of most test-takers.
