The pricing mistake that kills most analytics SaaS products before they hit 10 customers
Most first-time SaaS founders price their analytics dashboard at $19-29/month because it "feels safer." Here's why that's usually the wrong call:
Low prices attract the wrong customers. A $19/mo buyer is often just curious — they churn in month 2 because the tool was never a real priority. A $300+/mo buyer has already decided this is a business tool they need, which means they actually onboard, actually use it, and actually stay.
Low prices can't fund good onboarding. Analytics products live or die on the first 10 minutes — did the user see a real, personalized number fast? That requires reliable data syncing, clean UI, and often manual outreach in the early days. $19/mo doesn't cover that cost per customer; $300+/mo does.
A short free trial filters better than a long one. We run a 1-day free trial instead of a 14 or 30-day trial. Counterintuitive, but it forces urgency — users who are serious connect their data and see value immediately. Users who were never going to convert don't waste a onboarding slot for three weeks.
If you're building in this space: pick a narrow vertical, price like you mean it, and make your onboarding fast enough to earn the renewal before the trial even ends.
