The burnout equation nobody talks about
Most burnout advice is backwards.
People tell you to "set boundaries" and "practice self-care." Cool. But if you don't understand why you're burning out, bubble baths won't save you.
Here's the equation I keep coming back to:
Burnout = High Demand + Low Control + Low Reward
It's from Karasek's Demand-Control model, backed by decades of research. The insight is that stress alone doesn't burn you out — it's stress without autonomy or recognition that does it.
So the real fix isn't less work. It's:
More control over how and when you work
More visible reward — not just money, but acknowledgment that your effort matters
Selective demand reduction — cutting the tasks that drain you without advancing anything
I've been deep in this research for years, and I started Mindframe to break it down weekly for people who actually want to understand their own brain.
If you're a young professional running on fumes and sick of generic wellness content, this might be for you. First 7 days are free.
