1. Africa has the youngest population on Earth. The median age is 19. By 2050, 1 in 4 people on the planet will be African. That's not a footnote — it's the single biggest demographic shift of the century.

2. The Sahara wasn't always a desert. Just 5,000 years ago it was green, with rivers, lakes, and thriving civilizations. Climate cycles transformed it. The evidence is carved into rock art across Algeria and Libya.

3. Ethiopia was never colonized. It defeated Italy at the Battle of Adwa in 1896 — one of the most decisive anti-colonial victories in history. It shaped the entire Pan-African movement.

4. Lagos, not London, might be the world's largest city by 2100. Nigeria's commercial capital is exploding. The tech scene alone (sometimes called "Silicon Lagoon") is producing billion-dollar startups.

5. Africa holds 30% of the world's mineral reserves. Cobalt, diamonds, gold, platinum, uranium — the raw materials powering the global economy come disproportionately from this continent.
