Why your meetings are quietly killing your team's time (and how to fix it)
I've sat through hundreds of meetings that had no clear reason to exist. No agenda, no decision, no owner for what happens next. Everyone leaves, nods along, and then... nothing changes.
Here's the thing — most bad meetings aren't a "people" problem. They're a "structure" problem. Fix the structure and the meeting fixes itself.
A few things that changed everything for me:
1. One-line agendas. If you can't summarize the point of the meeting in one sentence, it's not ready to be scheduled yet.
2. Fewer people, more decisions. Every extra person in a meeting is another person who didn't need to be there. Invite based on who's needed to decide, not who might be interested.
3. Close with actions, not vibes. A meeting that ends without a named owner and a deadline for the next step didn't actually accomplish anything — it just felt like it did.
I ended up building out a full beginner course on this because I kept explaining the same fixes over and over to new managers — it's called Efficient Meetings Fundamentals over at Momentum Meetings Academy if you want the structured version with practice exercises. But even just applying the 3 things above tomorrow will change your meetings.
What's the worst meeting habit you've had to unlearn?
