Why most motion sim rigs are mis-tuned (and how to fix yours in 30 minutes)

If you've spent $2,000+ on a motion simulator rig and it still doesn't feel right, 99% of the time the problem is one of these three things:

1. Your motion profiles are factory defaults

Every rig ships with generic profiles tuned for "average" driving. The problem is there's no such thing. A GT3 car needs completely different heave/pitch/roll settings than a Formula car. Default profiles feel dead because they're trying to please everyone.

Fix: Create sim-specific profiles. Start with heave gain at ~40%, surge at ~25%, and sway at ~30%. Tune from there based on your most-driven car class.

2. You're running too much latency in the motion chain

SimHub → SRS → your platform has multiple latency points that stack. Most people never measure this. If your motion feels "late" or disconnected from the visuals, you're feeling latency, not the car.

Fix: Use SRS's built-in latency compensation tool. Set your monitor refresh rate correctly. Run your motion software at the same polling rate as your sim.

3. Your filtering is too aggressive

Motion platforms filter out road texture, kerbs, and small bumps by default because it reduces wear. But that filtering is also killing the feedback you paid for.

Fix: Reduce low-pass filtering by 15-20% in SRS or SimHub. You'll feel textures you never knew were there.

Most people spend months "getting used to" a rig that just needs 30 minutes of proper setup. Don't do that.
