5 mistakes I made in my first year on YouTube (so you don't have to)

I spent my first year on YouTube doing everything wrong. Here's what I wish someone told me on day one:

1. Obsessing over equipment instead of content

I bought a $500 mic before I had 10 subscribers. Your phone is fine. Your ideas are what matter.

2. Not studying my analytics

I had no idea which videos were actually working until month 8. Check your CTR and average view duration weekly — they tell you exactly what to fix.

3. Copying trending formats instead of finding my voice

Trends get views. Your unique angle gets subscribers. There's a difference.

4. Uploading inconsistently

I'd post 3 videos in a week, then disappear for a month. YouTube rewards consistency more than volume. Pick a schedule you can actually sustain.

5. Never asking for feedback

I was creating in a vacuum. The moment I started getting honest feedback from other creators, my content improved 10x.

If you're in the early stages of your YouTube journey, I built a free community where we work through these problems together. No gatekeeping, no upsells — just creators helping creators.
