Why 90% of startup MVPs fail (and how to avoid it)

I've built custom software for dozens of startups. The pattern is always the same — founders spend 6 months and $50K building something nobody asked for.

Here's the framework I use to de-risk every build:

1. Start with the workflow, not the feature list.

Don't ask "what features do I need?" Ask "what does my user do step by step?" Map the workflow first, then decide what to automate.

2. Build the riskiest part first.

If your whole product depends on an AI model performing at 90% accuracy — prove that works BEFORE building the dashboard around it.

3. Ship in 2-4 weeks, not 6 months.

Your first version should embarrass you slightly. If it doesn't, you over-built. Get it in front of users fast and iterate based on real feedback.

4. Use boring tech for the boring parts.

Auth, payments, notifications — don't reinvent these. Use existing infrastructure and spend your budget on the thing that makes your product unique.

If you're a founder sitting on an idea and not sure where to start, happy to scope it out for free. That's literally what we do at NexaBuild.
