It’s not the design. It’s the first layer.

Hobby printers make great Halloween props until they sit outside overnight. Then the brim curls, the tombstone leans, and you’re reprinting at 1am.

Three things that actually hold:

• First layer at 0.2 mm, not 0.28. A fat first layer looks “stuck” on the bed and still peels in dew.

• Brim, not raft. Rafts look clean in the slicer and trap moisture under the part.

• PETG for anything that stays out. PLA is fine for a porch test. It is not fine for a week on wet grass.

If the print itself is fine and the printer is the one fighting you — skipped layers, clogs, a bed that won’t stay trammed — that’s a machine problem. Fix the machine before you reprint the prop.

I keep a short pack of print-ready yard STLs and a separate 1-hour live session for the machine. Different jobs. Don’t mix them.
