How I eat for under $6/meal and still hit 120g protein every day
Everyone thinks eating healthy is expensive. It's not. It's just poorly planned.
I spend about $70-85/week on groceries and hit 100-120g protein daily. Here's how:
The 3 cheap protein sources I rotate:
Eggs — $0.25/egg, 6g protein each. 3 eggs = 18g for $0.75. The undisputed GOAT of budget protein.
Canned tuna — $1.50/can, 30g protein. Mix with Greek yogurt instead of mayo. Put it on crackers, in a wrap, or eat it straight. Don't overthink it.
Chicken thighs — $2-3/lb, 26g protein per thigh. Cheaper than breast, juicier, harder to mess up. Season with literally anything and bake at 400°F.
The framework:
Pick 2-3 proteins for the week (buy in bulk)
Pick 2 carb bases (rice, potatoes, pasta, bread)
Pick 3-4 vegetables (frozen is fine and cheaper)
Assemble different combinations daily
That's it. Monday is chicken + rice + broccoli. Tuesday is eggs + toast + spinach. Wednesday is tuna wraps. You're not reinventing the wheel — you're rotating it.
The real secret: meal planning saves you money because you stop impulse buying. When you walk into the store with a list, you walk out spending $70 instead of $120.
This is exactly what we do inside NutriVault — every week I drop a full meal plan with a grocery list, organized by store section, with estimated costs. No guesswork.
