After years in the design industry and sourcing premium home textiles, I've learned something that surprises most people: the most expensive option isn't always the best one.

Here are 3 things the luxury bedding industry doesn't tell you:

1. Thread count is mostly marketing.

Anything above 400TC is diminishing returns. What actually matters is the fiber quality — long-staple Egyptian cotton or European linen will outperform a 1000TC polyester blend every single time. Feel the weight, not the number.

2. Your pillows are probably wrong for your sleep position.

Side sleepers need firm, tall pillows. Back sleepers need medium. Stomach sleepers need almost nothing. Most people buy what looks good on a shelf instead of what their body needs. The right pillow changes everything.

3. Color and texture do more than pattern.

The urge to buy statement prints is strong, but the rooms that actually feel elevated use tone-on-tone layering — different textures in the same color family. A waffle-weave throw over sateen sheets over a linen duvet. That's the move.
