5 things every first-time pet parent gets wrong (and how to fix them)

Got a new puppy or kitten? Congrats. Also — you're probably making at least 3 of these mistakes. No shade, we all did.

1. Buying the cheapest grooming tools

That $5 Amazon brush? It's scratching your pet's skin. A proper slicker brush with rounded pins costs a few bucks more and your pet will actually enjoy being groomed.

2. Skipping nail trims

Most new owners are terrified of cutting too short. Get a proper clipper with a safety guard and trim every 2-3 weeks. Your floors (and your skin) will thank you.

3. Bathing too often

Once every 4-6 weeks is plenty for most dogs. Over-bathing strips natural oils and causes dry, itchy skin.

4. Not deshedding regularly

If your pet sheds, a deshedding tool removes loose undercoat without cutting the topcoat. 10 minutes a week = 80% less fur on your couch.

5. Ignoring dental health

Dental disease affects 80% of dogs by age 3. A simple finger brush and pet toothpaste goes a long way.

We built PawDrop because navigating all this as a new pet parent is overwhelming. We handpick quality essentials so you don't have to research for hours.
