The 3 mistakes every gym beginner makes (and how to fix them)

I've coached hundreds of beginners, and nearly all of them make the same 3 mistakes in their first 90 days.

Mistake 1: Program hopping

You do a random chest workout from YouTube on Monday, some TikTok ab routine on Tuesday, and by Wednesday you're lost. Without a structured program, you're just exercising — not training. Pick one program. Stick with it for 8-12 weeks. That's where the magic happens.

Mistake 2: Ignoring progressive overload

If you're lifting the same weight for the same reps every week, your body has zero reason to grow. Track your lifts. Add 2.5-5lbs per week on compounds. Small jumps compound into massive results over 6 months.

Mistake 3: Eating like you're still in high school

You can't out-train a bad diet. You don't need to be perfect — but you need enough protein (0.8-1g per lb bodyweight) and you need to eat consistently. Meal timing doesn't matter nearly as much as just hitting your numbers.

Fix these three things and you'll be ahead of 90% of people in the gym.

If you want a structured program with coaching and a community that keeps you accountable, that's exactly what we built Peak Form for.
