The 45-Minute Rule: Why Busy People Build Better Bodies

Most people think you need 90-minute gym sessions to get results. They're wrong.

After coaching dozens of professionals — lawyers, founders, engineers — I've found that the people with the LEAST time often get the BEST results. Here's why:

Constraint breeds intensity. When you only have 45 minutes, you can't waste time scrolling between sets. Every rep counts. Every exercise is intentional.

The science backs it up. Research shows that training sessions beyond 60 minutes see diminishing returns for hypertrophy. Your testosterone peaks and cortisol spikes — you're literally fighting your own hormones past that point.

Here's the framework I use with all my clients:

  • Compound first — Squat, deadlift, bench, row. Hit 80% of your muscles in 20% of the exercises.

  • Supersets, not scrolling — Pair non-competing movements. Chest press + face pulls. Squats + curls. Zero wasted minutes.

  • Progressive overload on 3-4 lifts — Stop chasing variety. Chase the numbers going up on your big lifts. Everything else is accessory work.

  • 3-4 days per week — That's it. Recovery is where muscle is actually built.

The gym bros doing 6-day PPL splits and posting 2-hour arm days? Most of them look the same year after year because they're optimizing for time spent, not results earned.

If you've got 45 minutes and 3-4 days a week, you have everything you need. The question is whether you're using that time right.

That's what Peak Physique is about — efficient training programs built around your schedule, not the other way around.
