Why most beginners quit the gym in under 6 weeks (and the 1 fix that actually works)

I've coached a lot of beginners, and almost all of them fail for the same reason: they start with a plan built for someone who has 90 minutes a day and zero life responsibilities.

Then life happens. They miss two sessions. They feel guilty. They quit.

The fix isn't more discipline. It's a lower floor. If your program can't survive a bad week, it's not a real program.

Here's what actually works for busy beginners:

1. Cap sessions at 45 minutes, 3x a week. Not 5x. Not 6x. Three sessions you can actually hit consistently beats five you'll skip.

2. Full-body compound lifts only — squat, hinge, push, pull, carry. You don't need 12 exercises to make progress in month one.

3. Nutrition without tracking, at first. Palm-sized protein + a vegetable + a carb source at each meal. Tracking macros before the habit sticks is how people burn out in week two.

4. Measure weeks completed, not perfection. If you hit 3 sessions in a week, that week counts — full stop.

Consistency compounds. A mediocre plan you follow for 3 months beats a perfect plan you quit after 10 days.

Building this out with a starter program over at Peak Physique Lab if anyone wants the full structure — but even just applying the above will get you further than 90% of gym-goers.
