Why most 'recovery' products fail desk workers (and what actually moves the needle)

Spent the last few months digging into recovery tech before building PeakForm, and here's the pattern I kept seeing:

Most wellness gadgets are built for athletes — people already sleeping 8 hours and training on a schedule. But if you're grinding a desk job 10+ hours a day, your recovery problem isn't training load. It's sitting, screen time, and inconsistent sleep.

Three things that actually matter for that profile, in order:

  1. Sleep consistency > sleep quantity. Going to bed within the same 30-min window matters more than chasing 8 hours every night.

  2. HRV trend > HRV number. A single HRV reading means almost nothing. The 7-day trend tells you if you're actually recovering or just tired.

  3. Passive tracking beats active tracking. If you have to remember to log something, you won't. That's the whole thesis behind building this as a ring instead of an app you have to open.

If you're at a desk all day and your 'recovery routine' is just coffee and hoping for the best — happy to share what's worked. Ask me anything.
