The real reason most unsigned artists get their music pulled or rejected from streaming platforms

Ran distribution for independent artists long enough to see the same 5 mistakes over and over. If you're prepping your first release, check these before you submit:


  1. Metadata mismatches. Your artist name on the release has to match your streaming profile name exactly — capitalization, spacing, everything. Platforms auto-flag mismatches as fraud risk.


  1. Fake collaborators in the artist field. Don't tag a "feat." artist unless they're actually credited and cleared. Platforms cross-check this and it can get your whole release held.


  1. Cover art with playable buttons or platform logos. Any image resembling a play button, Spotify logo, or app UI gets an automatic rejection. Keep it clean art only.


  1. Release dates set too close to submission. Give it 7+ days lead time. Same-day or next-day releases have way higher odds of missing playlist pitch windows.


  1. Not claiming your profile before release day. If your Spotify for Artists / Apple Music for Artists profile isn't claimed before the release goes live, you lose out on pre-save links and playlist submission tools.
