How I stop unpaid scope creep without sounding defensive
Sharing a simple system that saved me from doing free extras mid-project:
Before kickoff — send a short Scope confirm email listing deliverables, revision rounds, fee, and “anything not listed = change order.”
When they ask for one more thing — reply with a change-order note (effort + fee + timeline impact) and wait for “Approved” before starting.
If it’s already drifting — offer Option A (pay for extras) or Option B (park for Phase 2). Calm, specific, no apology spiral.
