The #1 mistake every adult beginner golfer makes (and how to fix it)

Most adults who start golf quit within 6 months. Not because golf is too hard — but because nobody told them the right things to focus on.

Here's what actually moves the needle when you're starting out:

Stop trying to hit it far. Distance is a byproduct of solid contact. Beginners obsess over swinging harder, which creates tension, destroys timing, and leads to mis-hits. Focus on the strike first.

The grip is everything. 80% of swing problems trace back to a bad grip. Spend 15 minutes a day just gripping and re-gripping the club correctly. Do this for a week. You'll be shocked.

Short game is where scores are made. A scratch golfer and a beginner both hit greens in regulation sometimes. What separates them is what happens within 50 yards. Start there.

Play 9, not 18. Beginner golfers have 3-4 good holes in them before mental fatigue sets in. Playing full 18s early just bakes in bad habits. Play 9 holes, practice intentionally, repeat.

If you're just getting started and want structured, step-by-step instruction built for adult beginners — that's exactly what Pin High Golf is. ⛳
