The 3 mistakes that kill a first cosmetics brand
I keep seeing the same three mistakes from women trying to launch a makeup or skincare line.
1. Starting with 12 SKUs. You don't need a full range. You need one product a specific woman will actually buy. One lip product. One moisturizer. That's it. A 12-SKU launch is how you burn cash on inventory that sits in a cupboard.
2. Branding before the customer. Logo, color palette, and a pretty Instagram before you can name who it's for. If you can't finish this sentence — "This is for _ who struggles with _" — you are decorating, not building a brand.
3. Ordering stock before a sale. Samples, yes. 500 units, no. Get the niche right, get the offer right, then order. Private-label exists so you don't need a factory. Use that.
If you're launching your first line, start smaller than feels comfortable. One product. One customer. One sale.
