Welcome to Houseplant & Indoor Plant Care: Start Here!

Welcome! This community is for people who love houseplants and want them to actually thrive, even when the room is not as bright as the plant tags promise.

Here are the top 3 rules for keeping indoor plants alive in low light:

  1. Pick plants that can handle it. Pothos, snake plant, ZZ plant, and peace lily are far more forgiving than sun-hungry varieties. Match the plant to the room instead of hoping the room will change.

  1. Water less, not more. Low light means slower growth and slower drying soil. Check the top inch or two before you water, and empty saucers so roots are not sitting in standing water.

  1. Rotate, dust, and give a little extra care. Turn pots every couple of weeks so growth stays even, wipe leaves so they can use the light they do get, and skip fertilizer until you see new growth.

Drop a comment and introduce yourself. Tell us your name and your favorite plant. If you are struggling with a dim corner, say so. We are glad you are here.
