The #1 reason most beginner podcasts die after episode 3
Been building out a podcast production course for beginners, and after digging through dozens of failed shows, one pattern shows up over and over: people quit not because recording is hard, but because they built zero buffer before launching.
Here's what actually happens:
Someone gets excited, records episode 1, publishes it immediately.
They now have to record episode 2 under a deadline they created for themselves.
Editing takes 3x longer than expected (nobody warns you about this).
By episode 3, they're exhausted, behind schedule, and the "fun idea" now feels like a job with no pay.
The fix that actually works: record 3 full episodes before you publish anything. Batch them. This does three things:
Removes the panic of "I have to record RIGHT NOW"
Lets you actually improve your interviewing/editing between episodes 1 and 3 before anyone hears episode 1
Gives you a real buffer so life happening (it will) doesn't kill your release schedule
Also — pick a niche narrow enough that you could name 20 potential episode topics off the top of your head right now. If you can't, your topic is too broad and you'll run out of ideas by month two.
Happy to answer questions if anyone here is planning to start one. What's stopping you from hitting record?
