Why most acne products don't work (and what actually does)

Most acne products on the shelf are built around the same 3 ingredients — salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and retinoids. They work for some people. For the rest of us, they just dry out our skin and make things worse.

Here's what I learned after years of dealing with breakouts in my 20s:

The problem isn't your skin. It's what's IN the products.

Most drugstore brands use fillers, fragrances, and harsh surfactants that strip your skin barrier. When your barrier is damaged, your skin overproduces oil to compensate → more breakouts → you use more product → cycle repeats.

What actually works:

  1. Gentle cleansing — Stop using foaming cleansers that leave your skin feeling "squeaky clean." That tight feeling means your barrier is compromised.

  2. Targeted actives at the right concentration — Niacinamide, azelaic acid, and zinc are underrated. They fight acne without destroying your moisture barrier.

  3. Hydration — Yes, even oily/acne-prone skin needs moisture. A lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer is non-negotiable.

That's exactly why I built Primtech — affordable, ingredient-first skincare that targets breakouts without wrecking your skin in the process. No fillers, no BS.

If you're tired of the same cycle, check it out.
