Welcome to Pro Rally 🎾

Hey, welcome to Pro Rally — glad you're here.

This is where I'll be dropping weekly coaching content: technique breakdowns, match analysis, drill sequences, and mindset tips for competitive junior players who want to level up fast.

Here's what to do first:

  1. Head to Players Lounge and introduce yourself — tell us your level, what you're working on, and your biggest goal this season.

  2. Check out Drill Library & Lessons — new lessons added weekly, starting with serve mechanics and footwork.

  3. Drop any questions in Players Lounge anytime. I check it daily.

This program is built for juniors who are serious about competing. If you're here, you're already ahead. Let's get to work.

Why most junior tennis players plateau before varsity — and how to fix it

I've coached hundreds of junior tennis players over the years. The ones who plateau before varsity almost always share the same problem — and it's not what most parents think.

It's not lack of talent. It's not fitness. It's tactical blindness.

They've been trained to hit balls. Nobody trained them to read the game.

Here's what I mean: a junior who hits a clean forehand cross-court isn't winning points because of their technique — they're winning because they made the right decision at the right moment. When technique gets coached but decision-making doesn't, players hit a ceiling around the 4.0–4.5 level and grind there forever.

The fix? Three things:

  1. Video self-analysis — watch your own match footage and identify your top 3 unforced error patterns. Most junior players have never done this.

  2. Situational drilling — stop hitting balls from a hopper. Start drilling from realistic game situations (ad-side pressure, net approach, second-serve returns).

  3. Prematch planning — before every match, write out your opponent's weaknesses and your plan A, B, and C. Takes 5 minutes and most opponents at the junior level have never thought about it.

These three habits separate the players who go varsity from the ones who stay JV.
