Why most brands waste money on 'UGC campaigns' (and how to actually pay for results)
Ran content reward campaigns for a while now and here's the pattern I keep seeing: brands pay creators flat fees upfront, get 5 mediocre videos, and call it a UGC campaign. That's not a campaign, that's a gamble.
The model that actually works is pay-per-view-after-approval. You only pay for content that performs AND that you've approved. It flips the incentive — creators are motivated to make things that actually get watched, not just technically deliver a video file.
Two formats worth knowing:
Clipping: if you already have podcasts/streams/webinars, creators cut them into shorts for TikTok/Reels/Shorts. Cheapest way to test if your existing content has legs.
UGC: creators make original content to your brief — testimonials, demos, brand story. Better for cold-start brand awareness.
If you're sitting on hours of long-form content and haven't clipped it yet, you're leaving reach on the table. Happy to break down bounty pool sizing if anyone's curious.
