The 3 settings that actually keep a 400mm yard prop from warping overnight
I've wasted more filament on Halloween yard props than on anything else I print. Not because the models are bad — because a 400mm tombstone fails in ways a benchy never will.
If you're printing oversized outdoor pieces on a Bambu, Prusa, or Ender, these three things matter more than "more infill":
1. Don't scale first.
Print the included test cube at 100%. If that warps, the 14-hour piece will pancake at 2am and you'll lose 600g of PLA. Fix bed adhesion and first-layer height on the cube, then scale.
2. Walls, not infill.
Outdoor props need 4–6 walls and 10–15% infill. 100% infill just stores heat, then cracks when it cools. Wind hits the walls, not the honeycomb.
3. Orientation beats supports.
Lay the largest flat face on the bed. Supports on a long print are where most fails start — a support scar becomes a weak seam, then a snap when you carry it to the yard.
PLA is fine for October in most of the US. PETG if it sits in sun past Halloween. Don't print ABS at this volume unless you already have an enclosure that can hold it.
That's the whole game: test small, print walls, skip heroic supports.
