Value can be found in many ways. Line shopping, boosts/discounts, correlation, and +EV tools are some of them.
The goal is not simply to pick more winners. The goal is to consistently bet numbers that are better than the true probability of the outcome.
A bet can win and still be a bad bet. A bet can lose and still be a good bet.
For example, betting a coin flip at -150 would be a terrible wager even if it wins. Betting that same coin flip at +120 would be profitable long term, even though it will still lose roughly half the time.
This is why judging yourself based on one bet, one day, or even one week is a mistake. Results are affected by variance. Its statistically possible to go 0-10 on -200 bets. Your process is what determines whether you will profit over a large sample.
Before placing any bet, ask yourself:
Am I expected to profit when placing this bet?
Is this the best price available?
What probability does this price imply?
And my favorite question to ask myself: Would I make profit if I placed this same bet separately 1000 times?
Finding value will not guarantee that every bet wins. It gives you the mathematical advantage needed to win over time.
