Why most English-to-Arabic translations online are unusable (and what to do instead)

Most automated Arabic translations miss the point entirely.

The problem isn't just grammar. It's that Arabic is a high-context language — the meaning shifts depending on formality, regional dialect, and the relationship between reader and writer. A sentence that reads professional in English can come across as cold, awkward, or even offensive in Arabic if translated literally.

Here's what I see repeatedly:

  • Business copy that uses formal MSA when the audience expects Egyptian or Gulf dialect

  • Blog posts that translate idioms word-for-word instead of finding the Arabic equivalent

  • PDFs where the entire layout breaks because Arabic is RTL and no one accounted for it

If you're targeting Arabic-speaking markets — for content marketing, legal docs, or product descriptions — the translation has to be culturally aware, not just linguistically correct.

That's what I do at Qalam Studio. Native Arabic, fluent English, and an understanding of what actually lands with readers on both sides.
