When your children ask you "Can I go out with my friend" you answer "Yes, but with limitations, not because I agree doesn't mean you can do whatever you want"

The 3 conversations every parent needs to have before their kid turns 15

Most parents wait too long for the hard conversations. By the time they try, their teenager has already built their worldview from TikTok and their friend group.

Here are the 3 conversations I wish someone told me to have earlier:

1. The "I trust you, AND here's why boundaries exist" talk.

Teens don't rebel against rules — they rebel against feeling controlled. Frame boundaries as a sign of respect, not suspicion. "I trust your judgment. These guardrails exist because the world isn't always fair to people your age."

2. The "You're allowed to fail" talk.

Perfectionism is destroying this generation. If your kid is afraid to try things, it's usually because they think failure = disappointment. Tell them explicitly: "I'd rather you try and mess up than play it safe because you're scared of what I'll think."

3. The "Here's how I messed up at your age" talk.

Vulnerability builds trust faster than lectures. Share a real story — something you got wrong, what it taught you, and what you'd do differently. Your kid doesn't need a perfect parent. They need an honest one.

These aren't one-time conversations. They're ongoing threads you weave into everyday life — in the car, at dinner, during walks.
