The #1 thing killing your forehand (and how to fix it in 10 minutes)
Most recreational players lose power on their forehand because they're arm-swinging instead of using the kinetic chain. Here's what I mean:
The mistake: You start the swing from your arm and shoulder, pulling the racket forward. It feels powerful, but you're leaving 40% of your racket speed on the table.
The fix — the "load and explode" drill:
Stand sideways to the net, racket back, non-dominant hand pointing at the ball
Push off your back foot FIRST — feel the ground
Let your hips rotate BEFORE your arm moves
The arm is the last thing that fires
Your body should unwind like a spring: feet → hips → torso → arm → racket.
Try this for 10 minutes against a wall. Hit 50 forehands focusing ONLY on the hip rotation happening before the arm swing. You'll feel the difference immediately — more pace, less effort.
This is the kind of breakdown I do every week inside Rally with Rico. Technique, strategy, match analysis — for every level.
