The 3 mistakes every gym beginner makes (and how to actually fix them)
I've coached dozens of beginners, and they all make the same 3 mistakes in their first 90 days. Here's the breakdown:
Mistake #1: Program hopping. You do a chest workout you found on TikTok Monday, a random "arm blaster" Wednesday, and skip legs entirely. Without a structured program, you're just exercising — not training. There's a massive difference.
Mistake #2: Going too heavy, too fast. Your ego wants to bench 185 on week two. Your joints and tendons disagree. Light weight + proper form for the first 8 weeks builds the foundation that lets you go heavy safely later.
Mistake #3: No tracking. If you don't write down what you lifted last session, you have zero idea if you're actually progressing. A simple notes app works. Write down every set, every rep, every weight.
The fix for all three? Follow a structured beginner program, start lighter than you think, and track everything.
That's exactly what we do inside Rep by Rep — structured programs, real coaching, and a community of people in the same boat as you. No fluff, no BS, just results.
