Why Your Resin Still Has Bubbles (And the 3-Step Fix Most Tutorials Skip)

If you've poured resin more than twice, you've dealt with bubbles. They show up in the final cure like tiny ghosts ruining an otherwise perfect piece.


Most tutorials tell you to "just use a heat gun." That's a band-aid, not a fix.


The Real Problem


Bubbles come from three sources, and you need to address all three:


1. Chemical reaction bubbles — When you mix Part A and Part B, the exothermic reaction produces gas. The faster you stir, the more air you whip in. Most beginners stir resin like they're making scrambled eggs. Stop.


2. Trapped air from pouring — Pouring from height or pouring too fast creates folds in the resin that trap air pockets. Think of it like folding batter — every fold is a potential bubble.


3. Surface tension bubbles — These rise from your mold surface, inclusions, or bezels. Any porous material will off-gas into your resin as it cures.


The 3-Step Fix


Step 1: Slow fold mixing (2+ minutes)

Stir slowly in a figure-8 pattern, scraping the sides and bottom. You're folding, not whipping. Set a timer — most people undermix because they get impatient. Undermixed resin = soft spots AND bubbles.


Step 2: Rest period

After mixing, let your resin sit for 2–5 minutes before pouring. This lets the majority of micro-bubbles rise to the surface naturally. This single step eliminates 60–70% of visible bubbles.


Step 3: Controlled pour

Pour from as close to the mold as possible, in a thin stream. Think honey drizzling off a spoon, not water from a pitcher. The thin stream breaks surface tension and lets remaining air escape during the pour itself.


The Advanced Method
