The 5-to-30-Day Rule: Why Most Amazon Sellers Are Wasting 40% of Their Review Requests

If you're using any Amazon review automation tool and you haven't verified your delivery date trigger, there's a good chance you're losing 30–40% of your eligible review requests.

Here's the issue:

Amazon's Request a Review API only accepts requests for orders that were delivered between 5 and 30 days ago. The window is calculated from the delivery date — not the order date, not the ship date. Outside this window, the API returns a silent error and no request is sent.

The Common Misconfiguration

Most automation tools default to triggering on order date + X days rather than delivery date + X days. The difference seems small but compounds fast:

  • If your average ship time is 2 days and delivery is 4 days after order, an order-date trigger of "Day 5" is actually only Day 1 post-delivery — outside the window entirely.

  • The tool logs it as "sent," but Amazon rejected it. You never know unless you check.

How to Verify Your Setup

  1. Open your automation tool's campaign settings

  2. Find the trigger setting — look for "trigger date" or "delay based on"

  3. Confirm it says delivery date (not order date or ship date)

  4. Cross-check: find an order in your tool that shows "Requested" status and verify the delivery date was between 5 and 30 days before the request timestamp

The Math on What This Costs You

At 100 orders/week with a misconfigured trigger losing 35% of requests:

  • You're requesting ~65 orders instead of ~95

  • At a 5% review rate: 3.25 reviews/week vs. 4.75 reviews/week

  • Over 52 weeks: 169 reviews vs. 247 reviews — 78 reviews lost to a single config error

Fix the trigger. Check your settings today.
