Why most sports bettors lose money (and how I stopped being one of them)
I spent 3 years losing money on sports bets. Not because I didn't know the games — I watched every single one. The problem was I was betting with my gut instead of a system.
In late 2025 I built a framework that combines matchup data, injury reports, line movement, and historical trends. I started tracking every single pick rigorously in January 2026.
The difference was night and day. Not because I suddenly became smarter — but because I stopped making emotional bets and started treating it like a business.
A few things I learned:
Line shopping matters more than pick selection. A half-point difference in the spread compounds massively over a season.
Volume kills most bettors. I only play 2-4 picks per day max. If the data doesn't show a clear edge, I sit out.
Bankroll management is everything. I never risk more than 3% on a single play. Boring? Yes. Profitable? Also yes.
I started Rics Best Bets to share the picks I'm already making for myself. Every pick posted daily by 3pm PT across NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, UFC, and more.
