Why most car detailing videos get zero views (and the 3-second fix)

I've watched hundreds of car detailing, wrapping, and tinting videos from small shops. Same problem every time.

The first 3 seconds are dead.

"Hey guys, today I'm going to show you…" — skip. Nobody cares. The algorithm already moved on.

Here's what works instead:

Lead with the problem or the result.

  • "This $80k Porsche had paint so bad the owner almost cried" → curiosity + stakes

  • "You're washing your car wrong and it's destroying your paint" → pattern interrupt

  • "Watch this ceramic coating transform a 10-year-old Honda" → visual promise

The hook isn't about what YOU'RE doing. It's about what the VIEWER gets from watching.

Quick test for your next video:

Read your first line out loud. If it starts with "I" or "Hey guys" — rewrite it. Start with "you", "this", or "watch".

That one change alone will double your retention in the first 3 seconds. And that's where 90% of views are lost.

The 3-step system I use to make any short-form video go viral

Most creators post and pray. Here's what actually works:

Step 1: Hook engineering

The first 0.5 seconds decides everything. I don't start with "hey guys" — I start with a pattern interrupt. A bold claim, a visual cut, or a question that makes you stop scrolling. Your hook should create a gap between what the viewer knows and what they want to know.

Step 2: Retention architecture

Going viral isn't about one great moment — it's about zero dead spots. Every 2-3 seconds needs a new piece of information, a visual change, or a tonal shift. I map out my scripts in "beats" — each beat is a reason to keep watching. If a section doesn't earn the next second, cut it.

Step 3: The monetization bridge

Views alone don't pay bills. Every piece of content should point somewhere — a product, an affiliate link, a community, a service. The best creators build content that naturally leads to a transaction without feeling like an ad.

I've used this exact framework to help creators 10x their views and start generating real income from content. If you want the full playbook + access to the community where I break this down daily, join RishScales.
